The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Brussels Office, Rue Saint-Ghislain 62, 1000 Brussels, Belgium provides up-to-date services and information through the website www.rosalux.eu (as well as through subdomains and further domain aliases).

As a provider, we take the protection of your personal data seriously and strictly comply with data protection law. Personal data are only collected on the website to the necessary extent. The collected data are never sold or passed on to third parties for any other reason.

The following statement gives you an overview of how we ensure such protection and what types of data are collected for what purpose.

Anonymised data processing

When using online services, data are generated. Those data are transmitted to us by your browser and are stored in the log files of the web server. Those data are:

browser type/version
operating system used
referrer URL (last visited page)
time of the server request
anonymised IP address

The service provider cannot allocate such data to specific persons. They are solely used for system-related and statistical purposes. These data are not combined with other data sources.

HTTP cookies

When accessing the homepage of rosalux.eu, cookies are stored temporarily in your browser. Temporary means that the cookies are only valid until the end of the respective browser session and are deleted following closure of the program. Rosalux.eu does not host any pages with login areas or individual visitor sessions. The cookies therefore do not contain any user-specific or personal data and are only used for statistical purposes.

Data may be collected by third-party providers (SoundCloud, Google, Facebook, Twitter, make.tv, Flickr) via cookies on various pages of www.rosalux.eu. You can prevent that by blocking cookies of third-party providers in your browser settings.

Web analysis

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Brussels Office, uses the open source software "Piwik" for web analysis. The alternative to "Google Analytics" is safe with respect to data protection – collected data, such as the number of visitors, page clicks, search terms, referrers, entry pages, exit pages and IP addresses, are stored on the server of an independent provider for the purpose of statistical analysis for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and are not misused for other (e.g. commercial) purposes.

Newsletter, subscriptions and orders

If you wish to receive the newsletter offered on our website, we require you to provide us with a valid email address and information allowing us to verify that you are the owner of the email address given or that the owner of the email address consents to receive the newsletter. No further data are collected.

Subscriptions and orders of publications that are sent by post require us to store the information necessary for sending them (name, address, conformation of consent).

You may withdraw your consent to the storage and use of such data at any time.

Right to information

You have the right at any time to information about the data stored concerning your person, the origin and recipient of such data, and the purpose of the storage. The use of our websites does not generally require you to disclose personal information. Where personal data (such as names or e-mail addresses) is collected on our websites, this is done for the declared purpose and on a voluntary basis. This data will never be sold and in general will not be forwarded to third parties, unless this is essential for the declared purpose. In this case, we will obtain your prior consent to forward this data.

The following declaration gives you an overview of how we ensure such protection and what types of data are collected for what purpose.

Cookies

We use cookies on our websites. Cookies do not harm your computer in any way and do not contain viruses. We use cookies to make our website more user-friendly, more effective and more secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer, saved by your browser for the defined period of validity and then deleted.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies”. These are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Other cookies remain on your device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognise your browser the next time you access our website.

You can set your browser to inform you when cookies are installed, to allow cookies only in individual cases or to block them in specific cases or completely, or to automatically activate the deletion of cookies when the browser is closed. Completely deactivating cookies may limit the functionality of our websites.

On our websites, data may also be collected by third-party providers (YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Google, Facebook, Twitter, make.tv, Flickr) via cookies. You can prevent this by setting your browser to refuse third-party cookies.

We will obtain your consent for the receipt of cookies (and for establishing connections to external services, see below) when you visit our websites. If you give your consent, this will be stored in the form of a cookie in the browser used by your device:

User analysis

Server log files

Each time you access a website, data is automatically transmitted to its operator. We store this data in so-called server log files. The stored data includes:

type and version of your browser
operating system used
the (complete) IP address of your accessing device
the exact time of the request
the URL of the requested file or page
the referrer URL (the page from which you were forwarded to our website via a link)
the HTTP status code (in the event of an error, for example)

We cannot attribute this data to specific individuals. The data will not be forwarded or merged with other data. We reserve the right to subsequently examine this data if we become aware of specific grounds for suspecting unlawful use. To this end, we retain the data for 180 days before deleting it. We assume that our interest in maintaining the functionality of our websites justifies storing the IP address, which we are cannot automatically link to a specific individual (legal basis: Art. 6 (1f) GDPR). On this legal basis, and since we are practically unable to attribute the data to specific individuals, there is no entitlement to erasure, rectification, etc., of the data.

Matomo

Our websites use the Matomo open-source web-analytics service (formerly Piwik). Matomo runs on one of our servers. Matomo generates the following cookies:

If you consent to these cookies, the data generated by the cookie on your use of our websites will be merged with other users’ data and stored on our server. We use these statistics to improve the usability of the websites and the usefulness of their content. We retain these statistics for several years. When stored, the second half of your IP address is omitted to protect your identity.

If you do not agree to your data being stored and used, you can opt out of this here. In this case, an opt-out cookie that prevents Matomo from storing usage data will be installed on your browser. If you delete your cookies, this means that the Matomo opt-out cookie will also be deleted. You will have to reactivate the opt-out cookie when you revisit our website.

Font embedding

Our websites use fonts that require a licence. A web analytics service operated by the licensor on the hello.myfonts.net server has been integrated for this purpose. This generates the following cookies:

As the licence fee depends on the number of people using our websites, these cookies are necessary to check that the licensing terms are being complied with. We assume that the forwarding of this data is of legitimate interest to MyFonts and that accessing the web page with the correct font prior to confirming the information about the cookie is of legitimate interest to us (legal basis: Art. 6 (1f) GDPR).

Linked features

Our website contains links that enable features of individual social networks (hereinafter referred to simply as “Services”). If you click on one of these links, a direct connection is established between your browser and the Service, even if you do not leave our page. This informs the Service that you have visited our website from your IP address. These Services are:

Data entered on forms

Contact forms / enquiries

If you make an enquiry using a contact form, we will store the data entered on the enquiry form, including the contact details you have provided, in order to process your enquiry and in case of any follow-up questions. We will not share this data without your permission. It will be sent by e-mail to the inboxes of the employees responsible for processing it. As these employees also receive documents that have to be retained for up to 10 years for legal reasons, we regularly delete this data once this period has expired. The data entered on forms will also be retained on the web server for one month for security’s sake and then automatically deleted.

Newsletter data

If you wish to receive the newsletter offered on the website, we require your e-mail address, as well as information allowing us to verify that you are the owner of the e-mail address provided and that you agree to receive the newsletter. No additional data will be collected. We use this data solely for sending the requested information.

We send the information via a contractually bound service provider that receives this data for that purpose:

At any time, you may withdraw your consent for the storage of your data and your e-mail address, as well as for the use of such data to receive the newsletter, by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link in the newsletter. We have an agreement with MailChimp for contract data processing.

Press mailing list

If you would like to receive our press releases, we will need an e-mail address from you. If your correspondence with us also contains your name, the name of the editor and a telephone number, we will store this information to help us with our press and public-relations work. We add this data to our press mailing list. If we know the editor’s name, further information (such as the address of the media publisher and contacts established) will be added to your personal details in the press mailing list for the purpose of coordinating our press-relations work. This information will not be disclosed to third parties.

At any time, you can withdraw your consent for the processing and storage of your data as described, as well as for receiving press releases, by sending an e-mail with the subject “unsubscribe” to the e-mail address given on the “Press” page.

Data security

We protect your data to the best of our ability. Since the transmission of data on the Internet may be subject to security vulnerabilities, it is not technically feasible to guarantee the complete protection of data against third-party access. Our websites use SSL encryption to protect the transfer of confidential content (such as data transmitted to us on online forms). You can see when a connection is encrypted because the address bar of your browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and the small lock symbol appears in your browser bar. Once SSL encryption has been activated, the data you send to our servers cannot be read or altered by third parties during transmission.

Hosting

Our website is maintained by our contractually bound digital agency, which is obliged to observe confidentiality and has access to our servers for this purpose:
